Re: Division 1 Title
Volunteer is still the best team I've seen this year and it's not even close. They'd beat JIB about as bad as they did Clintwood. If Robinson was healthy and they're playing the way they are today, I still wouldn't pick Clintwood. That Cradic kid they have at qb is 2x's the player of anyone in this region.

Re: Division 1 Title
Exactly, they were playing a defense focused on stopping the pass so every time Powell Valley ran the ball they got good yardage. Every time Pinkston touched the ball, he did well.. Again, why the heck didn't they run more often if it was working well for them?
And why did they insist on throwing the ball when they were in/close to the redzone instead of being able to run easily against a defense focused on stopping the pass and which INTERCEPTED the passes?
This is what I'm trying to say. Powell Valley's offense/play-calling was just miserable that night.

Re: Division 1 Title
Because if they went to an I and started running more they go to a 4 or 5 man front or even if they stay in the spread and keep giving him the draw, you quit dropping or sending your outside lb'ers off the edge and have them focus on the run. It was working well for them, because Clintwood was giving it to them. If a team is in 3rd and 25 and they run the draw and pick up 20, they're not doing good. It's what they're given. Simple.

Re: Division 1 Title
Syntax, there is an element to defense you play when you're playing a team with some gamebreakers. It's basically a bend, don't break defense. If you would think of the first Clintwood, Norton game this year, Clintwood was inside that what, 10 yard line twice early and came away with 3 points. That's why it was a big thing for Clintwood to punch the first drive in Saturday. Clintwood was content to give up 3-4 yards on plays, but not 30-40 yard plays. Same thing when it was PV. You bend, you don't break. 30-40 yard plays tend to lead to scores. You can give up 2 3 yard plays, make one stop and its a 3rd down and 4, or 5.

Re: Division 1 Title
But then if you mix it up better with the running/passing and start confusing those linebackers and the defense itself, isn't that a better way to call plays when working with the spread? I know that with the spread they're obviously wanting to focus on throwing the ball, but even some of the plays I saw them choose were just way out there.. like I said, it reminded me a lot of the PV/GC game this Saturday in which they continuously tried to go for long passes and ended up getting screwed over with several int's as a result.
It's just sad to see some of that talent in the backfield go to waste.

Re: Division 1 Title
I've figured the Chubz system.
Team he thinks is better throws picks=they are stupid and make mistakes
Team he thinks is worse throws picks=the other team was just so much better that they caused the picks
Team he thinks is better throws picks=its their fault, no credit to the team that makes the pick or puts pressure on the QB making him make the throw
Team he thinks is worse throws picks=The superior nature of the other team finally showed

Re: Division 1 Title
If they're playing a 3-4 (Which is what PVFan even said earlier in the year was a sure fired way to beat them) it limits what they can do. It takes away the midrange throws and makes the deep ball even more important to be accurate. Cedric is a great athlete, but he's an average qb. He throws a good looking ball, but he's not accurate. If they get out of the spread and go to an I or split back they're playing right into Clintwood's hands. They played the best way they could to beat Clintwood, Clintwood'd db's made a couple great plays on some balls (the one by Robinson was the best defensive play I've see all year) and Cedric made a couple of ill advised throws. There are two teams playing and just because the flashy team that you think is going to win doesn't win, doesn't mean you have to denigrate the other team for making the plays to win. There are two teams on the field. Sometimes one team helps the other win, other times a team wins theirselves. Clintwood won that game, PV didn't lose it.

Wow. Yep, you've figured me out.

Re: Division 1 Title
I have to at least thank you for explaining these things to me. You guys know a lot more about this stuff than I do. I'm not a football know-it-all and have never claimed to be.. just because I like the game and make picks based on my own feelings and don't know absolutely everything there is to know doesn't mean I'm a moron or don't deserve to have a say in things, though.
It really just aggravates me at some of the attitudes on here. It's: You either know it all 100% from top-to-bottom no exceptions and we like you or you don't and you're an idiot.
